Welcome Letter
Dear Colleagues,
On behalf of the International Federation of Automatic Control (IFAC), the South African Council for Automation and Control has great pleasure in inviting you to participate in the 13th Symposium on Automation in Mining, Mineral and Metal Processing of the IFAC from the 2-4 August 2010 in Cape Town, South Africa. The symposium will offer delegates an ideal opportunity to share ideas and constructively debate the challenges facing the scientific and engineering community engaged in all aspects of automation in the mining, metallurgy and the mineral processing industries. The centrally located symposium venue in this world renowned holiday destination will ensure a setting that will promote networking and social interaction.
We invite you to not simply visit, but to experience South Africa’s rich culture and heritage for yourself! It is here in the “cradle of mankind” that you will find the world’s oldest rocks, the world’s oldest fossils and the world’s youngest democracy. Gold, diamonds and the spirit of adventure drew explorers and pioneers from all corners of the earth and over time, different peoples settled on this land, which is now home to many cultures.
Cape Town itself offers an experience of a life-time. Centuries before being discovered by travel writers, Sir Francis Drake described the Cape of Good Hope as “the most stately thing, and the fairest cape we saw in the whole circumference of the earth”. Today, Cape Town continues to enthrall visitors. Dominated by a one kilometer high, flat-topped mountain, the city engages you with her beauty and the many attractions to explore within her immediate surrounds.
We look forward to the pleasure of welcoming you at what promises to be an exciting and fruitful event.
See you in Cape Town!
